Varsity kicked off our homecoming game against Lancaster on September 6th at Canyon High School. The weather was hot but the spirits were high! The hot weather didn’t phase the players. According to Coach Kelly, a lot of these football players are self-motivated: “They can get sidetracked but football games help them stay motivated,” Kelly shares.
The score ended close but GV ended up winning with one point, making the score 7-6, with varsity now being 3-0. Junior Anthony Baldoze, Varsity Tight End, made the first touchdown. Baldoze commented, “ I think it was pretty cool to make a touchdown as a Junior, especially since we didn’t win any games last year as a JV team.” Senior Aryan Chandra, Kicker, made the respective field goal.
Halftime was a success with the parade highlighting the creativity of each elective and clubs. Cars were holding the most voted homecoming couples. Dance put on an amazing La La Land performance. The band played ” When you wish upon a star” by Cliff Edwards, with an everlasting performance from the Golden Valley Cheerleading team.
As for the 2nd half, Lancaster made a nail-biting comeback– but they missed their last field goal. There were cheers and roars from everyone in the stands. Golden Valley took home the win for our pre-HOCO game.
Will Golden Valley keep their 3-0 streak or will they lose the next game against South 9Pasadena? We hope the Grizzlies keep up their winning streak. When we see them again at Valencia against Hart high. Stay Golden, Grizzlies!
