Ready, set, hike, may be words reserved for the boys, but the girls are here to play! Excitement is in the air as we gear up for the first season of our new flag football team, uniting passion and players eager to make their mark on the field. “I started playing football when I was young. I knew that I really couldn’t join the boys’ football team and get playing time so I wanted to start my own team,” said (Jr) London Brown. And with that drive and determination shining through she began the petition in making her dream team. There is a shared enthusiasm throughout GV for football, and it reminds us that this is more than just a game; it’s an opportunity to challenge ourselves, break down stereotypes and showcase all our skills.
As the new season is set to begin in 2025, the girls’ flag football team will quickly become a source of pride and excitement at Golden Valley High School. When asked how Brown will recruit players, she passionately stated, “ For me, I like just to express how I feel about starting this team and when talking the girls, ‘I tell them to just give it a try, you may really like it too!”When it is time to lace up their cleats, practices will surely be filled with laughter and determination. The players will embrace the game’s challenges, learn teamwork and strategies; all while forging lifelong friendships and a new chapter for Golden Valley sports.
Though this team may be new to the district, these girls will be the ones to set the tone and showcase their athleticism paving the way for other future generations of female football athletes at Golden Valley. The hope is to not only promote a fun environment for girls to engage in sports but also create a squad that fosters teamwork, builds confidence, and encourages inclusivity. With fresh leadership and innovative ideas, these athletes will be encouraged to think big and explore their potential. By continuing to be a supportive atmosphere of school spirit with GV pride running through our veins we hope to inspire a lifelong love for girl’s football, physical activity and being open to accepting new traditions for all students. Tryouts will be held Spring of 2025.
