The graduating Class of 2025 has come full circle. They entered Golden Valley as wide-eyed freshmen, surrounded by new opportunities and experiences, and now they are preparing to close this chapter of their lives. Over the past four years, they have made countless memories: some joyful, some challenging but all meaningful. As they get ready to move on to college, careers, or other exciting paths, many seniors are reflecting on their time at GV and sharing advice for the underclassmen who will soon walk the same paths.
The Grizzly Gazette spoke with eight seniors to learn more about their favorite high school memories, post-graduation plans, and words of wisdom. Our first spotlight is one of our own, Jocelyn Antonio, a dedicated member of the Grizzly Gazette. Jocelyn reflected fondly on her time as a member of the Golden Valley Dance Team. When asked about her favorite memory, she shared, “My favorite memory from high school was performing at foot-
ball game/s with my dance team and then getting rewarded by yummy delicious food after and sharing this experience with my friends.” These moments, filled with laughter, friendship, and celebration, remain close to her heart.
Looking ahead, Jocelyn is planning to attend UC Santa Cruz, where she will major in Sociology. Antonio mentioned that she “might try out for the dance team” as a way to continue her passion and stay connected to the experiences that shaped her time at GV. Jocelyn is hoping to create new memories but still reminisce about her dance team at Golden Valley, a sentiment many seniors can relate to as they prepare to carry old passions into new places. Next, we spoke to Jonathan Okereke, who shared how theater transformed his high school experience. His favorite memory? “My first ever theatre show, West Side Story! I met most of my closest friends and it was such an amazing, inspiring experience.” Okereke shared. The stage offered him more than just a performance opportunity, it gave him lasting friendships and a sense of purpose.
Jonathan also had a clear and powerful piece of advice for incoming freshmen: “Do your work! No matter how hard it gets, do. your. work. Please!” As someone with big dreams, Jonathan is excited about the future and plans to pursue acting. “I would love to be on the set of a film, commercial or literally anything!!” he shared with enthusiasm, proving that passion and perseverance go hand in hand.
Connor Anderson also took time to reflect on his high school journey. When asked about his favorite moment, he said, “Prom last year,” a classic and unforgettable night for many students. Prom often marks a moment of joy, freedom, and celebration, and for Connor, it stood out among all his high school experiences.
Connor will be attending Oregon State University next year, a remarkable accomplishment that speaks to his hard work and commitment. He offered some thoughtful advice for future freshmen: “Don’t let yourself get so focused on schoolwork that you forget to have fun while you’re in high school.” As he looks to the future, Connor shared, “I’m looking forward to college and being able to be out on my own for the first time.” Like many graduates, he’s excited to step into independence and new beginnings.
Our next senior is Ariana Gutierrez. We asked her what her best memory from high school was and she answered with, “Going to football games and spending time with my friends”. She then shared a piece of advice for future freshmen and her advice is, “Always be true to yourself and don’t let other people change your perspective on things. It’s your high school experience and you should do what makes you happy. And go to all the events!”
As the Class of 2025 prepares to take their final steps on campus and step into the next chapter of their lives, their stories remind us that high school is more than just assignments and grades; it’s the people we meet, the passions we pursue, and the memories we carry with us. Whether it’s performing under the Friday night lights, finding your voice on stage, dancing with friends, or simply soaking up the energy of school events, these moments shape who we are and who we’re becoming.
To the underclassmen reading this: take in every moment, no matter how small. Go to the game, join the club, try something new. High school goes by fast, but if you live it fully, you’ll leave with stories worth telling one day. And just like these seniors, one day you’ll look back and realize that you’ve come full circle too.
