Last year, a new club was born from the labyrinths of CLORG. With a group of creative and capable student artists, they have banded together to form Art Club.
With the collaboration of their friends, Art Club was the brainchild of Noah Mendoza, a senior in Golden Valley who is a great artist and a better person to hang with. As I visited the club for the first time, I could see the dedication and the creativity of all the student artists present. They all have their own unique and beautiful art styles, and I can see they all have fun. Then again, Art Club is made by student artists for student artists.
The club gives student artists an environment to hang around and to hone in their art skills among peers. Although the club is quite small, Art Club is very lively as student artists enjoy themselves with drawing and chatting with friends. I have a few friends currently in Art Club and they are having a great time.
Previously, Art Club was in Room 415. Now the club has been moved to Room 804 under Ms. Jacobson. The meeting is held every Thursday during lunch. The club has a social media platform, @gvhsarts.club on Instagram, where they post the events they have done. Art Club has hosted a few events like Art Fight that concluded on April 24, a movie night during October, and a meet-the-artist event among student artists during the first days of the club.
Although Art Club caters to student artists, all students are welcome to the club. Among the student artists, there are other students as well that hang around with friends. You do not have to be an artist to join Art Club because the club wants to promote inclusivity while also sharing the practice and the passion behind art.
Since Noah and their friends are seniors, Art Club will be under new management for the next school year. They held an election during late-March and Art Club has decided which among their peers will become their new officers. Ojakayda Bujanda Cohl (or Kayda) will be the new president of Art Club for the 2025-2026 school year.
Although Art Club is coming to a close this May, you can join Art Club in the next school year if you are interested. From my numerous visits to the club, it is an easy-going, fun environment where students just hang around and have a laugh, while also drawing unique artwork at times. I hope you will enjoy your time in Art Club!
