Many animals all over the world move constantly. Some more farther than others.
Spring is one of the biggest times to move. As the south hemisphere changes into winter and the Northern hemisphere is getting ready for Summer. Animals move to their preferred temperature.
Here in the Americans some animals that are on the move are butterflies like monarch butterflies, birds like Arctic terns, fish like Salmon, mammals like Caribou on land and in water Humpback Whale.
-Monarch butterflies have a multi-generational migration pattern. That means not one of the signal butterflies will complete the whole migration. They go from North America to central Mexico. Traveling up to 3,000 miles
-Arctic tern is a bird that has a record for being the longest migration. Going from their winter homes in Antarctica to their breeding grounds in the Arctic. From pole to pole a 25,000 mile journey.
-Salmon travels up- stream to freshwater from the ocean after 7 years. To where they were born to spawn. Is about 1,000 with many different end spots from Canada to Alaska. This is a one way stop for them.
-Caribou is their annual trip that takes some herds 3,000 miles. From the Arctic coastal plains to Arctic tundra.
-Humpback Whales travel 6,000 miles to many different places in the world, because they too don’t just have one place to meet. As they go to breed in the summer months.
Some others to keep an eye on are Elephant Seals, and Great white on the California coast. And my favorite, The Great Migration of Wildebeest, Zebras, Antelope, ect, in Africa.
