Week 4 NFL Power Rankings
An In-Depth Analysis from Managing Sports News Editors, Donovan Swanson
The NFL has been going on for 3 weeks and there have been a lot of moments that have set the pace for the season. A lot of teams have also shown that they will be contenders for the Super Bowl, like the Buffalo Bills.
1. Buffalo Bills
The Buffalo Bills have shown that they are truly Super Bowl contenders this year. They are absolutely the most well-rounded team in the NFL with an amazing defense and offense. Sean McDermott is one of the best head coaches in the NFL. When they lost their offensive coordinator Brian Daboll this offseason to the Giants, people thought their offense would fall off, but they have been stronger than ever. Josh Allen is a top 5 QB and Stefon Diggs is a top 5 wide receiver. Their defense is also one of, if not the best defense in the league. Even though they lost to Miami, I believe they are truly the best team in the NFL.
2. Philadelphia Eagles
The Eagles’ offense is as potent as ever and their defense racked up 9 sacks, 1 forced fumble, and only allowed 8 points. They held QB Carson Wentz to 211 passing yards and gave up 1 touchdown to running back Antonio Gibson. Jalen Hurts proved that he can be a pure passer because he threw for 340 yards, 3 touchdowns, and no picks. He only rushed for 20 yards, which is a quiet game for him on the ground, and as an offense as a whole, they rushed for 72 yards, which is also quiet for them.
3. Miami Dolphins
Tua Tagovailoa and the Miami offense have proved these last two weeks that they can compete with the best of the best. The first week of the season we saw the defense play well and the offense not holding up their end, and the second week saw the opposite, where the offense played well and the defense let up 38 points. The third week, however, saw a bit of the whole team playing well. Although the defense allowed Josh Allen to throw for 400 yards, 2 touchdowns, and no picks, they played very well because Josh Allen had 63 passing attempts, so he was bound to accumulate a lot of yards with that number of pass attempts. What Miami needs now is to see their running game start some better development. If they were to develop a run game with Raheem Mostert and Chase Edmonds, they would be one of the most complete teams in the NFL. The Dolphins beat the Buffalo Bills for the first time in 7 games with a final score of 21-19.
4. Baltimore Ravens
The Ravens have bounced back from their loss last week against the Dolphins, where they allowed 28 points in the last quarter. They bounced back because of Lamar Jackson. Lamar has proven time and time again that the Ravens need to pay him. He has carried this team on his back since 2019 when he won MVP. They have scored 20+ in all 3 of their games and 35+ in the last 2. Lamar Jackson was responsible for 9 of the Ravens’ touchdowns whether it be by his arm or his feet, which is 63 of the Ravens’ 99 points. The offense is by far the best part about this team and has produced a whole lot of points and yards this season. As long as they have Lamar Jackson on the field they will be a top team in the AFC.
5. LA Rams
The Rams started the season off a bit slow. They got blown out by the Bills in the first week of the season by a score of 31-10. They bounced back by beating the Falcons and Cardinals. They played well against the Cardinals on Sunday by only allowing them 12 points, all from field goals. They only had one turnover and it was a fumble by running back Cam Akers. In order for the Rams to get far this season, Cam Akers would need to fix his fumble issues.
6. Kansas City Chiefs
The Chiefs, even without Tyreek Hill, have shown that they are a formidable opponent. There is no replacement for Tyreek Hill, but the Chiefs have tried their best with offseason additions of Juju Smith-Schuster, from the Steelers, and Marquez Valdez-Scantling, from the Packers. They beat the Chargers by one score in week 2 and blew out the Cardinals in week 1. With the loss to the Colts on Sunday, they showed their flaws, like their run game and pass rush.
7. Green Bay Packers
Every year, the Packers start the season off with a bad week one performance. This year, the Packers have won 2 straight and one game was against one of the best defenses in the league, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Aaron Rodgers is still a top 10 QB in the NFL. He had 255 passing yards against one of the better secondaries in the league and his running backs did not do much yesterday. The running backs had 67 yards on 25 attempts, which is only 2.68 yards per carry. The Packers need to get a better receiving corps because in the first few weeks, they have been dropping passes that are easily catchable. It is quite obvious Aaron Rodgers is missing Davante Adams.
8. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The Tampa Bay defense has played very well this season, allowing only 27 points across 3 games, the fewest in the league. They have an elite front 7 and a secondary that can clamp the best wide receivers in the NFL. Tom Brady and the offense need to produce more because they scored 51 points across their 3 games. They are proving that they can play without Tom Brady being under center because they have gotten 2 wins with Tom Brady playing like a 45 year old man. They need to incorporate the run game more because they used Leonard Fournette in the first week against the Cowboys and the offense produced well during that game.
9. Jacksonville Jaguars
The Jacksonville Jaguars have much improved this season. Their head coach, Doug Pederson, is a giant improvement over their last head coach, Urban Meyer. Trevor Lawrence is making better throws and is starting to look like the quarterback everyone thought he would be when he was drafted last year. The receiving corps is doing amazingly well with Marvin Jones and Christian Kirk leading the charge. The run game has improved from last year with Travis Etienne returning from an injury he suffered at the beginning of last season and James Robinson rushing for over 100 yards against the Chargers. The defense held the Colts last week to 0 points and played extremely well against Justin Herbert and the Chargers.
10. Dallas Cowboys
The Dallas Cowboys held off the Giants on Monday and the Bengals in week 2. Their defense has been really good with the pass rush that they have. The Cowboys will go as far as Micah Parsons and the defense take them. They can’t only rely on the defense though, the offense is also pulling their weight too. Cooper Rush has filled Dak Prescott’s shoes well while Dak is injured. He got injured week 1 against the Buccaneers and Cooper Rush stepped in as an efficient passer and the rush offense is also carrying their load to propel this team to compete against the really good teams.
A common trend in the top 10 teams is their quarterbacks. Most of the top 10 teams have good QBs or just amazing offenses as a whole. Also the top 10 have great defenses, like the Bills, Eagles, and Buccaneers especially. We asked people around Santa Clarita who their top 3 teams were. The general consensus was that Buffalo was 1 and Philadelphia was 2, the number 3 spot was where people differed. Most people said that their 3rd was the Rams or the Chiefs.

His favorite baseball team is the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and his favorite football team is the Miami Dolphins. His favorite baseball players are Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani because they carry that horrible team to a mediocre status, if the Angels did not have them, they might be the worst team in the MLB. His favorite football player is Dan Marino because he was the best quarterback Miami has ever had, and even though he has no rings to prove it, he is one of the best QBs of all time.
